Men's Basketball Report (Week 5) - Franklin Moves to 3-1 in HCAC Action

GREENWOOD, IN - Franklin College (5-4, 3-1 HCAC) won its only contest last week.  The Grizzlies pulled away from visiting Defiance in the second half, notching an 83-68 win at the Spurlock Center Saturday. 

The Grizzlies have won four of their past five contests after opening the season with a 1-4 mark.

Senior center Will Conoley (Franklin, Ind./H.S.) scored a team-high 22 points against DC, hitting 9-of-12 from the field, while adding five rebounds, five assists, and a blocked shot.

Conoley currently leads the HCAC in scoring this season, averaging 18.9 points per game.

Franklin will travel to Trine and Wabash during the holiday break.  The Grizzlies tip at Trine tonight at 7:00 PM and will face nationally ranked Wabash on December 29.

In other action...

Transylvania (7-0, 4-0 HCAC) stands alone at the top of the league standings and remains the only unbeaten team in league play.  The Pioneers trailed at the half, but came back to hand Bluffton a 76-68 setback in Lexington Saturday. 

Junior forward Ethan Spurlin (Stanford, Ky./Lincoln Co.) led four Pioneers in double figures with 16 points and five rebounds against the Beavers.

Transy will host Hendrix in the opening round of the Don Lane Invitational Tuesday.  TU will face Wabash or Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday evening.

Rose-Hulman (8-2, 3-1 HCAC), Hanover (6-2, 3-1 HCAC), and Anderson (6-4, 3-1 HCAC) sit alongside Franklin in the HCAC standings after Saturday's action.

Hanover posted a 60-54 win at home over Rose-Hulman, while Anderson won at home against Earlham 79-61.
