Men's Basketball Report (Week 10) - Hanover Posts Third Consecutive Win

GREENWOOD, IN - Hanover College (12-4, 8-2 HCAC) remained one game behind first place Transylvania University in the HCAC standings with a pair of wins last week.  The Panthers earned their second and third consecutive win, defeating Anderson and Defiance during the week of play.

Hanover opened the week with a 71-60 home win over Anderson Wednesday.  The Panthers were led by senior center Mike Case (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) in the win, scoring a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

HC held on for an important road win Saturday, holding off host Defiance 67-62.  Case was even more impressive against the Jackets, netting a season-high 30 points with 10 rebounds.

The Panthers will look to keep pace with Transy this week as HC travels to Mount St. Joseph Wednesday.  Hanover will try and avenge a 60-59 defeat to Manchester in the conference opener as the Spartans head south Saturday.

In other action...

Transylvania (15-2, 9-1 HCAC) kept its win streak alive, notching wins over Mount St. Joseph and Anderson on the road last week.

Junior Brandon Rash (Mt. Sterling, Ky./Montgomery Co.) led the Pioneers to a 53-44 win at Mount St. Joseph, scoring a game-high 18 points with four rebounds. The Transy defense held the host Lions to 29.5% shooting from the floor and forced 18 turnovers.

Transy pulled out a narrow 58-55 win at Anderson Saturday.  Junior Ethan Spurlin (Stanford, Ky./Lincoln Co.) led the way with 14 points as the Pioneers stretched their win streak to four in a row.

TU will remain on the road Wednesday at Franklin and will return home to Lexington to face Defiance Saturday.  The Jackets handed the Pioneers their only HCAC defeat back on January 7.

Manchester (7-10, 5-5 HCAC) has now won four of its past five contests after opening HCAC play with a 1-4 record.

The black and gold earned home wins over Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph this week and moved into the sixth spot in the HCAC race.

Senior center Jason Spindler (Harlan, Ind./Woodlan) hit the game winning shot against Bluffton with seven seconds remaining to deliver a 59-58 win. Spindler led the scoring with 16 points and five blocked shots.

In a 72-63 win over MSJ, Spindler led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.  He added 10 rebounds, two assists, one blocked shot and a steal in the win.

Manchester will look to continue its climb up the standings against Rose-Hulman and Hanover this week.
