Men's Basketball Report (Week 8) - RHIT Pulls Even in HCAC Race

GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman (11-2, 5-1 HCAC) moved into a first place tie atop the HCAC standings after posting two wins last week.  The Engineers won at Earlham 73-43 and handed Mount St. Joseph a 54-42 defeat in Terre Haute during the week's action.

Sophomore guard Julian Strickland (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) led the effort against Earlham, scoring a game-high 16 points with seven rebounds and two assists.  Defensively, the Engineers held the Quakers to 28.8% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers.

Rose jumped out early against Mount St. Joseph Saturday, leading the Lions 32-14 at the half.  Sophomore guard James Pillischafske (Louisville, Ky./Male) was the only Engineer in double figures, netting 12 points on four of five shooting. 

RHIT sits alongside Transylvania and Hanover with 5-1 marks in league play.  Rose will travel to Anderson and Transylvania this week.

In other action...

No. 25 Transylvania (11-2, 5-1 HCAC) dropped its first league game of the season Saturday.  The Pioneers began the week with a 76-55 win over Franklin, but fell on the road to Defiance Saturday 74-64.

Junior forward Ethan Spurlin (Stanford, Ky./Lincoln Co.) led the Pioneers during the week, averaging 25.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. 

Spurlin scored 24 points with six rebounds in TU's 76-55 win over Franklin and added 27 points and nine boards in a 74-64 loss to Defiance.

The Pioneers will face a pair of 5-1 opponents this week as Hanover and Rose come to Lexington.

Hanover (9-3, 5-1 HCAC) posted two wins during the week, handling Mount St. Joseph and Bluffton to move into first place.

Senior center Mike Case (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) averaged 21.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the two wins. Case scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers to a 75-61 win at Bluffton Saturday.

The senior added a game-high 15 points and two rebounds in limited action in a 67-46 home victory against Mount St. Joseph Wednesday.

Manchester's Jordan Moss (Columbia City, Ind./H.S.) became MC's 28th member in the 1,000 point club during a 62-48 win over Earlham Saturday. Moss netted a game-high 27 points to reach the plateau.
