Men's Basketball Report (Week 12) - Defiance Wins Pair at Final Seconds

GREENWOOD, IN - Defiance College (9-12, 5-9 HCAC) ended a three game losing skid with a pair of last second home wins last week.  The Yellow Jackets remain alive to earn a spot in the HCAC tournament with four games remaining on the schedule.

Junior guard Logan Wolfrum (Defiance, Ohio/Ayersville) sank the game-winning bucket in each of the Yellow Jackets' victories.

Wolfrum helped DC overcome a 10-point deficit against Manchester with 13 second-half points, finishing the contest with 18 points and nine assists.  The junior capped off the victory with a game-winning shot with 2.8 seconds remaining, giving DC a 57-56 win. 

On Saturday, the Defiance native scored the final 10 points of the game for the Jackets, including the game-winning jumper with 5.2 seconds in a 66-64 win over Mount St. Joseph.  Wolfrum ended the game with 22 points, six assists, and five boards. 

For the week, Wolfrum averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.

Defiance currently stands two games out of the sixth and final HCAC tournament spot.  The Jackets face Earlham and Rose-Hulman on the road this week.

In other action...

No. 18 Transylvania (19-2, 13-1 HCAC) defeated Earlham and Rose-Hulman this week to run its win streak to eight-straight.

Junior forward Brandon Rash (Mt. Sterling, Ky./Montgomery Co.) scored 22 points and dished out five assists, while Ethan Spurlin (Stanford, Ky./Lincoln Co.) added 23 points and five boards in TU's 89-76 win over Earlham Wednesday evening.  As a team, the Pioneers shot 63% from the field in the win.

In Saturday's 56-51 win at Rose-Hulman, Spurlin led the scoring with 15 points and six rebounds.

Transy currently holds a two game lead in the league standings with four games remaining.  The Pioneers will welcome Mount St. Joseph and Manchester to Lexington this week.

Earlham College (1-20, 1-13 HCAC) earned its first win as a member of the HCAC Saturday afternoon, stunning second place Hanover College (15-5, 11-3 HCAC) 57-53.

Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) led EC to the win, scoring a team-high 11 points and six rebounds.
