GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College men's basketball team is now the lone remaining unbeaten team in the HCAC after a 70-66 win at home over Ohio Northern Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets (4-0, 0-0 HCAC) handed the Polar Bears their first defeat of the season in the process.
Senior forward Ryan Hicks (Port Clinton, Ohio/H.S.) led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds on 11-of-17 shooting. Junior guard Travis Schomaeker (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) chipped in 26 points, including 5-of-8 from three-point land.
Defiance will open HCAC play on the road this week, facing Manchester Wednesday and Mount St. Joseph Saturday.

Hanover (3-1, 0-0 HCAC) suffered its first loss of the season, falling 88-79 at Ohio Wesleyan over the weekend. Junior guard Tim Bass (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) posted 27 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the loss. Bass scored 15 points in the final 12 minutes of the game when the Panthers trimmed a 25-point deficit to six points in the closing minute.
Franklin (3-2, 0-0 HCAC) dropped a pair of contests down in Florida over the holiday break. Senior guard Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown Co.) averaged 28.5 points in the two losses, scoring 30 points in FC's loss to NCAA Division II member Eckerd and 27 points against undefeated Southeastern (FL).
Transylvania (1-3, 0-0 HCAC) earned its first win of the season with an 81-76 win over Wilmington. The Pioneers opened the week with a tough 84-75 defeat to rival Centre.
Earlham College (1-4, 0-0 HCAC) also found the win column for the first time this season, beating Kenyon 86-84. Freshman guard Michael Parker (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) led the Quakers with 22 points off the bench, connecting on six three-point field goals in the win.
