Men's Basketball Report (Week 4) - Franklin Opens Conference Season 2-0
GREENWOOD, IN - Franklin College opened the conference season with a pair of wins last week. The Grizzlies (5-2, 2-0 HCAC) won at rival Hanover and at Bluffton during the opening week of HCAC play.
Senior guard Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown Co.) scored 45 points in FC's 92-82 win at Bluffton Saturday. The senior's 45 points was the third highest tally in HCAC history and fell one point short of tying Franklin's single-game school record. Howard connected on all seven of his three-point field goals in the contest, tying a school record.
On Wednesday evening, Howard added 13 points in a 74-68 triumph at rival Hanover. The Grizzlies outscored the Panthers by eight points in the second half to pull out the win.
For the week, Howard averaged 29.0 points per game while shooting 60.0% from the field and 72.7% from three-point land.
Franklin will entertain Mount St. Joseph Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
In other action...
Defiance College (6-0, 2-0 HCAC) remained unbeaten on the season, posting a pair of league wins last week. The Jackets won at Manchester 67-48 and pulled out a 72-64 victory at Mount St. Joseph Saturday.
Junior forward Bernard Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Warren Cousino) led DC with 31 points in the win over Manchester, while adding 19 points in the win over Mount.
Senior post Ryan Hicks (Port Clinton, Ohio/H.S.) led the way against the Lions, netting 39 points with six rebounds. Hicks connected on 12 of his 15 field goal attempts in the win.
