Men's Basketball Report (Week 8) - Rose-Hulman Runs Win Streak to 5-Straight

GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman continued its winning ways with a 70-57 win over Bluffton Saturday.  The Engineers (8-3, 3-1 HCAC) have won five in a row since suffering a three-point setback at Transylvania on December 7.

Senior guard Julian Strickland (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) led the Engineers over the Beavers, scoring a game-high 26 points in the win.  Strickland connected on 10 of his 17 field goal attempts and added four assists, four steals, and three rebounds. 

The Indianapolis native now leads the HCAC in scoring, averaging 24.0 points per contest. 

Rose-Hulman sits in a five-way tie for first place in the league standings and will face Earlham and Defiance this week.

In other action...

Defiance (8-3, 3-1 HCAC) finished the holiday schedule with a 1-3 record.  The Yellow Jackets suffered an 87-66 loss at NCAA Division I Oakland, beat Albion 50-48, lost to Ohio Wesleyan 75-62, and fell at Hanover 67-63 during the two week span.

Ryan Hicks (Port Clinton, Ohio/H.S.) scored in double figures in all four games for the Jackets, including a high of 25 at Hanover. Hicks averaged 18.3 points and 7.25 rebounds over the four games to go along with 3.5 assists.

Hanover (7-4, 3-1 HCAC) bounced back from tough losses to Illinois College and Wooster to defeat Defiance Saturday. Junior guard Tim Bass (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and sophomore forward V.J. Billups (Jeffersonville, Ind./H.S.) each scored 18 points in the win over Jackets.

Mount St. Joseph (6-4, 3-1 HCAC) claimed a 78-53 road win at Manchester in its only action over the holidays. Junior guard Mark Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) led the Lions with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the victory.

Franklin College (6-5, 3-1 HCAC) ended a three game skid with a 79-71 triumph at home over Earlham Saturday.  The Grizzlies also fell to No. 3 ranked Illinois Wesleyan, 83-67, over the break.  Senior guard Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown Co.) averaged 18 points, while shooting 50% from the field, in the two contest.
