Tim Tierney, Transylvania University, Men's Basketball
Transylvania University senior guard Tim Tierney (Ft. Wright, Ky./Covington Catholic) led the Pioneers to an upset win over No. 1 ranked Washington-St. Louis and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Tierney scored a career high 28 points in a win over Mount Union and led Transy with 25 points, four rebounds, and five assists in a 73-69 win over the top ranked Bears of Washington-St. Louis in the first round of the Wooster Invitational. The senior netted 19 points in a championship game loss to Wooster, earning a spot on the all-tournament team.
For the week, Tierney averaged 24.0 points, three rebounds, and 4.3 assists, while shooting 52% from the field.
Transylvania (7-5, 3-1 HCAC) plays host to Defiance and Anderson in conference action this week.
