Men's Golf Report (Week 1) - Franklin Paces HCAC Field at MSJ Invite

GREENWOOD, IN - Franklin College's men's golf team led the seven competing HCAC schools at the Mount St. Joseph Spring Invitational with a first place finish this past weekend. The Grizzlies edged host Mount St. Joseph by two strokes to win the two-round tournament.

The blue and gold finished the 36-hole event, held at Aston Oaks Golf Club, with a two-day score of 640.  J.J. Burns (Roachdale, Ind./North Putnam) and Matt Hicks (Cloverdale, Ind./South Putnam) led Franklin with second place finishes, firing a total of 159 to finish six strokes off the lead.

Mount St. Joseph's Nick Barlow (Milford, Ohio/H.S.) was the medalist at the event, firing rounds of 76 and 77.  The Lions finished two strokes behind Franklin in the team standings.

Anderson University finished 24 shots off the lead in the team standings and placed third.  Freshman Stephen Perky finished tied for fifth in the individual standings with a two-round total of 161.

Hanover, Rose-Hulman, Defiance, and Manchester rounded out the HCAC finishers at the tournament.

Defending HCAC champion Transylvania traveled south last weekend and placed ninth at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, held at the Pine Lakes Golf Club in Georgia.  The Pioneers finished with a three-round total of 912, placing ninth among the 27 competing schools.  Justin Tereshko (Madison, Ind./H.S.) tied for 17th in the individual standings, leading Transy with a total of 224.

This weekend, seven of the conference schools will be competing on the links at the Hanover Invitational on March 27-28.
