Men's Golf Report (Week 4) - Franklin Edges Transylvania at Defiance Invitational

GREENWOOD, IN -Defiance College played host to the ten-team Defiance Invitational this past weekend.  Franklin College earned a first place finish, edging second place Transylvania University by a single stroke.   Seven of the eight HCAC men's golf squads competed at Kettenring Country Club with Manchester the only team not at the invite.

Franklin junior Eric Whitaker (Coatesville, Ind./North Putnam) led the way for the Grizzlies, firing rounds of 76 and 73 to finish third in the individual standings.  Whitaker finished two shots behind medalist Jared Lambert of Trine University.  As a team, the blue and gold totaled a 615 at the 36-hole event.

Second place Transylvania finished the tournament with a total of 616.  Justin Tereshko (Madison, Ind./H.S.) led the Pioneers with a 148, finishing second overall in the standings.

Mount St. Joseph placed fourth in the team standings with rounds of 321 and 316.  Chris Lamb (Fairborn, Ohio/H.S.) finished sixth overall with a two-round total of 155.

Hanover College finished six shots back of Mount and placed fifth in the team standings.  Freshman Matt Murphy (Richmond, Ind./H.S.) carded a 14th place finish with a pair of 79's at the event.

Host Defiance, Anderson, and Rose-Hulman rounded out the HCAC finishers at the tournament.

Manchester competed at the DePauw Invitational last weekend and placed sixth among the six competing schools.

The men's golf squads will hit the course for the final time before the HCAC Championship this weekend as all squads are in action.  The HCAC first and second rounds will take place April 24-25 at the Legends of Indiana Golf Club in Franklin, Indiana.
