Transy's Frazier Named Ping All-American

HERSHEY, PA – Transylvania freshman Hunter Frazier has been named to the Ping All-America second team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Frazier, the Heartland Conference Player and Freshman of the Year, finished in a tie for 10th in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Hershey, Pa., Friday. His final round of four-under par 68 was tied for the third best round of the day.

The Lexington Christian High School product was five under par over his last three rounds in the NCAA Championship. After an 11-over par 82 in the first round at the Hershey Country Club East on Tuesday, he finished his tournament with rounds of 72, 71 and 68. Frazier finished the tourney at six over par, 13 shots back of winner Tain Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripts, who came in at seven under par.

Mitch Fedorka of La Verne, who finished second overall, and Chris Morris of Centre, who was third, had final rounds of 67 and were the only two players in the field to finish with better final rounds than Frazier.

Transy's team total was 1224, which put them in 19th place. Transy had been one of only six team to finish in the national top 15 for the last three years in a row.

Methodist (1177) won the team title with Guilford just one shot back in second place. Huntingdon (1181) and St. John's (1191) were next. Defending champion Oglethorpe tied for sixth with a total of 1201.

Chase Blaich of Huntingdon, Skidmore’s Chris DeJohn, Mitchell Fedorka of LaVerne, Methodist’s Trey Howell and Josh Schrader, LaGrange’s Hudson Keener, Peter Latimer of Guilford, Tain Lee of Claremont, Susquehanna’s Mitch Mercer, and Centre’s Chris Morris were first-team Ping honorees.

Second-team selections included Guilford’s Brian Creghan, Hunter Frazier of Transylvania, Emory’s Ryan Dagerman, Mark Giorgi and Ben Vangsness of Saint John’s, Methodist’s Josh Speight, and Greensboro’s Ben Nihart.

Nicholas Antonelli of Salem State, Worcester’s Bob Bruso, Jesse Chiero of Ohio Wesleyan, Washington & Jefferson’s Brad Cieslinski, Brandon Ellis of UT-Tyler, John Carroll’s Blake Furgerson, Derek Holmes of Wisconsin-Stout, Huntingdon’s J.P. Kircher, Tony Krogan of Saint John’s, Farmingdale State’s Masa Maruyama, Shane Miller of Emory, Wesley’s Craig Osberg, Craig Osterbrock of Wittenberg, Guilford’s Dusty Roberts, Brendon Singleton of Skidmore, Hope’s Steven Strock, Matt Wennmaker of Illinois Wesleyan and Trine’s Andy Wolf were named to the third team.
