Transylvania Claims Fourth Straight HCAC Mens Golf Championship

DEFIANCE, OH – Transylvania University’s Hunter Frazier (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian) fired a four-round score of 295 at the 2010 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Men’s Golf Conference Championship at the Legends of Indiana Golf Club in Franklin, Ind. and Kettenring Country Club in Defiance, Ohio to lead the Pioneers to their fourth straight HCAC Men’s Golf title. Transylvania tallied a team-score of 1,192, holding off second place Franklin’s total of 1,230.
Frazier shot a first-round 73 and returned in the final three rounds to shoot a 74, 75, and 73. He earned medalist honors at the tournament and has been named the 2010 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player and Freshman of the Year. Frazier finished five strokes ahead of his teammates Matthew Martin (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) and Justin Tereshko (Madison, Ind./H.S.).
Transylvania received outstanding outings from all five of their golfers, placing all in the top ten. Stephen Montgomery (Elizabethtown, Ky./John Hardin) finished nine shots back of Frazier with a 304 with Deuce Wall (Madison, Ind./Shawe Memorial) finishing ninth with a total of 309.
Frazier, Martin, Tereshko, and Montgomery all earned All-HCAC
recognition. Joining the group on the All-HCAC team are Franklin
College’s Tom Moore (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin
Central) and Eric Whitaker (Coatesville,
Ind./North Putnam) , Hanover College’s
Marcus El (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and College of
Mount St. Joseph’s Will Schau (Burr Ridge,
Ill./Providence Catholic).
Franklin finished second behind the Pioneers with a team score of 1,230. Mount St. Joseph and Hanover tied for third in the team standings with a total of 1,250. Anderson tallied 1,282 team points for fifth place and was trailed by Defiance (1,316), Rose-Hulman (1,331), and Manchester (1,333).
Transylvania head coach Brian Lane was also honored by the HCAC and named Coach of the Year. Lane earned the honor for the fourth time after leading the Pioneers to their fourth straight HCAC men’s golf championship.
