GREENWOOD, IN – The 2013 HCAC men’s golf tournament shifts west to Terre Haute, Indiana for the third and final rounds this weekend. Transylvania University is shooting for their seventh consecutive HCAC men's golf title and leads the field by three strokes heading into the final weekend. The final rounds will take place at Rea Park Golf Course in Terre Haute, Indiana Saturday and Sunday.
The conference champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships which will be held on May 14-17 in Sandestin, Florida.
The Pioneers fired a total of 297 on day one and followed that effort with a 300 on Sunday. Transy totaled a 597 for the two days and lead second place Hanover by three strokes. The rest of the field includes Mount St. Joseph (613), Franklin (641), Rose-Hulman (654), Manchester (675), Anderson (696), and Defiance (705).
Transylvania's Stephen Montgomery (Elizabethtown, Ky./John Hardin) currently leads the individual standings with rounds of 72 and 72. The senior currently holds a one shot lead over Marcus El (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) of Hanover. El fired a three under par 69 last Sunday to charge up the leaderboard.
The top eight finishers after Sunday's round is complete will earn All-HCAC honors. The top freshman finisher will receive the Freshman of the Year award. Action will get underway Saturday at 11 AM and Sunday at 9 AM.
