JEKYLL ISLAND, GA —Transylvania
University's men's golf team logged their best round of the
three-day event, Sunday, taking seventh place overall at the Jekyll
Clay Hinton (Elizabethtown, Ky./H.S.) finished tied for third place in individual scoring. Hinton posted rounds of 75, 69 and 70 and finished the event with a total of 214 (-2). Hinton finished a mere three strokes behind the tournament leader.
Transylvania entered Sunday's final round in 14th place, before a team total of 15 birdies helped move the Pioneers up seven places for a top-ten finish.
Hinton and Evan Shelley (Albany Ky./Clinton Co.) finished Sunday's round under par, while Jantzen Latham (Central City, Ky./Muhlenberg Co.) shot an even par on the day. Jeff Meade (Ashland, Ky./Paul Blazer) finished with a round of 73 (+1) and Ben Fister (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) posted an 80 (+8) on the final day of play.
The Pioneers teed-off on No. 10, as Shelley got the momentum started with the team's first birdie of the day. Hinton followed with back-to-back birdies on No. 12 and No. 13.Latham also birdied No. 12 for his first of three birdies Sunday. Shelley followed suit posting back-to-back birdies on No. 14 and No. 15 as he sat two-under par after six holes. At the turn, Meade was four-over before sinking three birdies on the front, finishing one-over on the day.
