GREENWOOD, Ind. - Transylvania University's men's golf team led the eight competing HCAC schools at the Mount St. Joseph Spring Invitational with a first place finish this past weekend. The Pioneers finished two strokes ahead of Otterbein University in the team standings.
Transylvania finished the 36-hole tournament, held at Aston Oaks Golf Course, with a score of 628. Junior Carson Wattenbarger (Madison, Ind. / Madison) led all HCAC golfers at the tournament, firing rounds of 70 and 73 to earn medalist honors.
Hanover College finished 15 strokes behind Transylvania in the team standings and tied for third overall. Sophomore Gabe Rohleder (Evansville, Ind. / Mater Dei) finished 3rd in the individual standings with rounds of 77 and 74.
Defiance College carded a sixth place finish at the 14-team event with a total of 668.
Mount St. Joseph (7th, 669), Rose-Hulman (8th, 673), Earlham (11th, 686), Anderson (13th, 717), and Manchester (14th, 798) rounded out the HCAC finishers at the tournament.
Rose-Hulman will host Anderson, Defiance, Earlham, Hanover, Manchester, Mount St. Joseph, and Transylvania at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Invite this weekend.
