Men's Soccer Report (Week 8) - Rose Clinches Share of HCAC Title and Top Seed in Tourney
GREENWOOD, IN- Rose-Hulman clinched at least a share of the conference championship and the top seed in the upcoming HCAC tournament after defeating Franklin and Bluffton last week. The Engineers (11-4-1, 7-0 HCAC) have won nine in a row heading into the final week of play.
Freshman midfielder Zane Englert (Waterloo, Ill./H.S.) scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Franklin. Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) and Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) combined with a Bluffton own goal to defeat the Beavers 3-0 Saturday. The win clinched the Engineers' second straight HCAC men's soccer title and top seed in the tournament.
Transylvania (11-3-1, 6-1 HCAC) remained alive for a share of the confernece title and secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament with a 2-0 win over Franklin. Pierre Manga (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) scored his second goal of the week against the Grizzlies. The Pioneers handed Wabash a 2-1 win earlier in the week and have won eight straight contests.
Hanover, Anderson, Defiance, and Manchester remain alive for the No. 3 and 4 spots in the tournament field. The final contests of the regular season will be played Saturday afternoon.
