Men's Soccer Report (Week 7) - Transy Holds Top Spot in Tight Championship Race

GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University posted a 2-0 record during the week of play to extend its unbeaten streak to seven straight.  The Pioneers (10-2-2, 4-0-1 HCAC) currently hold a two point advantage over Anderson and Franklin in the league standings.

Transy posted a pair of 2-1 wins over Defiance and Earlham last week.  The Pioneers last defeat came back on September 22 against Maryville (TN) and are currently ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA/Adidas Great Lakes Regional Rankings.

TU freshman forward Eric Froschauer (Union, Ky./Ryle) scored the game-winning goal with 12 seconds to play in the 2-1 victory at Earlham, keeping the Pioneers unblemished in league play.

Junior midfielder Peter Mikhail (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) netted the game-winner against Defiance, scoring the team's second goal in the 66th minute.

Franklin remained in the race for a league title with a 1-0-1 mark in HCAC action during the week.  The Grizzlies (6-4-3, 3-0-2 HCAC) earned a 1-1 tie at Rose-Hulman before dismantling Bluffton 6-0 Saturday. Joel Fisher (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) scored the team's only goal against the Engineers late in the first half.

Anderson remained in a second place tie with Franklin, running their unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive games with a 4-1 win over Mount St. Joseph.  The Ravens netted three second half goals to pull away from the visiting Lions.

Manchester (4-9-2, 3-2 HCAC) ran its win streak to three in a row with wins over Defiance and Rose-Hulman, creeping back into the race for a HCAC tournament berth.  Sophomore forward Dian Radev (Burgas, Bulgaria/Vasil Levski) scored a pair of goals in the final moments of the Spartans’ 2-1 win over Rose-Hulman, scoring in the 87th minute to tie the score at 1-1 before converting on a penalty kick with 18 seconds remaining.

In other conference action last week...Hanover won its first league game with a 3-1 victory at Mount St. Joseph before falling to Earlham 1-0.
