GREENWOOD, IN – The Transylvania men’s soccer program earned the outright HCAC Championship for the sixth time in program history and secured the top seed for the conference tournament.  The top-seed Pioneers will tangle with No. 4 Manchester in one semifinal, while the second seeded Ravens of Anderson will host No. 3 Franklin in the second semifinal.

Transy clinched the outright title with a 1-0 overtime victory over Anderson on Saturday afternoon.  Senior Zach Lange (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) scored the game winning goal in the first overtime period.  Lange found the back of the net on a free kick in the game’s 95th minute to secure the conference title.  The Pioneers finished the regular season with a 14-2-2 overall record and an 8-0-1 mark in conference play.

Transylvania will face Manchester at 2:00 PM Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals.  The Pioneers pulled out a 1-0 win over the Spartans back on September 25.  Peter Mikhail (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) scored the game’s only goal in the 80th minute to propel the Pioneers to the win.  Manchester finished the season 7-10-2 overall and 6-3 in conference action.

Anderson (9-5-5, 6-1-2 HCAC) and Franklin (8-5-4, 5-1-3 HCAC) will meet in Anderson for the second men’s semifinal.  The Ravens and Grizzlies tied 1-1 when the two squads met at Anderson on October 6.  AU has posted a 6-1 record since that meeting.  Action between the Ravens and Grizzlies in Anderson will get underway at 2:00 PM Wednesday.

The winner of the conference tournament will earn the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament that is slated to begin on November 10.  The highest remaining seed after the two semi-finals will host the conference tournament final at 1:00 PM Saturday.
