Transylvania Nets Second Straight HCAC Men’s Soccer Tourney Title
LEXINGTON, KY – Transylvania defeated visiting Anderson, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon to pick up the school’s eighth HCAC men’s soccer tournament championship. The top-seeded Pioneers (16-2-2) earn another trip to the NCAA Division III men’s soccer tournament with the win.
Transy did not score until the second half. Senior forward Brian Williams (Lexington, Ky./Tates Creek) found the back of the net in the 54th minute of play to give the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage. TU struck again 10 minutes later when freshman midfielder Christian King (Nicholasville, Ky./East Jessamine) scored thanks to an assist from freshman Tyler Crombie (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin Co.), handing the hosts the 2-0 win.
Brian Williams was named the HCAC Tournament’s Most Valuable Player for his efforts this week.
Transylvania, winners of eight straight matches, will learn of its first opponent in the NCAA tournament on Monday. The tournament is scheduled to begin on November 11.
The Pioneers advanced all the way to the Elite Eight in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
