Transy Men Also to Face Lynchburg in NCAA Opening Match

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Transylvania will travel to Lynchburg (Va.) Thursday to play the Hornets of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in first-round play of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

Transy, 16-2-2 with an eight-game winning streak, is back in the NCAA tourney for the second year in a row and for the sixth time overall.

They advanced to the Elite Eight last year, defeating Capital, No. 1 seed Ohio Wesleyan, and Swarthmore before losing to Calvin on penalty kicks. It was the best post-season showing in school history.

Transy made the Sweet 16 in 2007.

Ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region, the Pioneers are in the NCAA Championship by virture of securing the Heartland Conference's automatic bid with a 2-0 win over Anderson in the HCAC tourney finals.

The Hornets (15-4-1) won the ODAC conference tournament to get into the NCAA field. They knocked off Hampden-Sydney 5-1 in the finals.

Lynchburg is ranked eighth in the South Atlantic Region.

The winner of the Transy-Lynchburg match will face host Emory on Sunday in Atlanta. Emory is ranked No. 2 in the region and has a 14-2-2 record after receiving at at-large bid into the tourney. Emory is ranked 12th nationally and has appeared in 12 NCAA Tournaments.

Transy's men and women both face Lynchburg in first round games this week and with wins, both would advance to play at Emory.
