GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman opened their HCAC season with a big victory over Hanover 9-0. The Engineers (3-5-2, 1-0 HCAC) also posted a 2-1 overtime win against Illinois Wesleyan earlier in the week.
Junior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) tied a school record against Hanover, scoring five goals on seven shots in the contest to lead Engineers. Vatterrodt earned the HCAC Player of the Week award for his efforts.
In RHIT's 2-1 overtime win over Illinois Wesleyan, sophomore forward Adam Carlson (Brownsburg, Ind./H.S.) found the back of the net with four seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Carlson also scored the game winner in the first overtime to complete the improbable victory.
Transylvania (5-2-1, 1-0 HCAC) bounced back after a non-conference loss to Maryville (TN) to beat Manchester 1-0 in the league opener. Junior midfielder Peter Mikhail (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) broke a scoreless tie in the 80th minute to defeat the Spartans.
In other conference action last week...Mount St. Joseph opened with a 5-0 win at home over Bluffton, while Defiance and Anderson played to a scoreless tie.
