GREENWOOD, IN - The HCAC men's soccer title match has been set after an exciting first day of action. No. 2 Rose-Hulman and No. 4 Earlham advance to Saturday's title match in Terre Haute after posting victories today.
The first match of the day saw top seed Transylvania tangle with No. 4 seed Earlham in Lexington. The match remained tied at 0-0 after regulation and two overtime periods.
The Quakers were able to connect on all four of their penalty kicks in the shootout and EC goalie Chris Marshall came up big in goal when it counted to help defeat the regular season HCAC champion Pioneers.
Rose-Hulman took advantage of Transy's misfortune and rolled to an impressive 8-0 victory over No. 3 seed Mount St. Joseph. The Engineers received goals from five different players in the triumph.
With the win, Rose has earned the right to host Earlham in the HCAC championship match at 1:00 PM Saturday in Terre Haute. The winner will receive the HCAC's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.
