RHIT's Clint Vatterrodt Named Capital One Academic All-American

TERRE HAUTE, IN - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University)  has earned Capital One NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Academic All-American honors, in results released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Vatterrodt captured second-team accolades for his efforts in the classroom and as a member of the men's soccer squad over the past four years.  The NCAA Division III Academic All-American team includes three squads of 11 student-athletes each out of more than 400 institutions across the nation. 

Vatterrodt becomes the 93rd Academic All-American in Rose-Hulman athletics history and claimed the sixth award in men's soccer.  Nick Race earned third-team accolades in 2011. Matt Trowbridge captured first-team honors in 2007 and was a third-team selection in 2006.  Mark Schulz earned second-team honors in 1990 and was named third-team in 1989.

At least one Rose-Hulman student-athlete has earned Academic All-American honors for the last 26 years, the sixth longest streak among all NCAA Division I, II or III institutions.

Vatterrodt ranked No. 6 nationally in NCAA Division III this season with 21 goals and stands No. 5 nationally with 52 points.  He was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player, has captured all-region honors, and was a three-time first-team all-league honoree.

Vatterrodt stands third in school history with 40 goals and 104 points, and holds Rose-Hulman's career school record with 24 assists.  He shared a school record with 10 assists this season.

During Vatterrodt's career, the Fightin' Engineers compiled a 32-4-3 mark against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents and ended the 2011 regular season on a school record 11-match winning streak.  The team also won HCAC Tournament titles and made NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in 2008 and 2011. 

In the classroom, Vatterrodt holds a 3.39 grade point average as a civil engineering major.
