Rose-Hulman Nets Second HCAC Men’s Soccer Tourney Title

TERRE HAUTE, IN – Rose-Hulman defeated visiting Earlham, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon to pick up the school's second HCAC men's soccer tournament championship. The No. 2 seed Engineers (16-5) earn the school's second trip to the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament with the win.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the break and never looked back. Senior midfielder Tim Hollingshead (St. Peters, Mo./Lutheran) scored the first goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the game's 16th minute. RHIT struck again in the 32nd minute when B.J Thompson (Princeton, Ind./H.S.) scored to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Earlham cut the Rose lead to 2-1 in the second half when Corey Campbell (Mason, Ohio) converted on a penalty kick.
The Engineers put the game out of reach, finding the back of the net three more times as five different players scored a goal in the title match.
Tim Hollingshead was named the HCAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player for his efforts this week.
Rose-Hulman, winners of 11 straight matches, will learn of its first opponent in the NCAA tournament on Monday. The tournament's first/second rounds are scheduled for November 10-13.
