GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University used a suffocating defense and a timely offense to shut out No. 3 Ohio Northern 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Lexington. TU fell to Wilmington 3-2 in overtime earlier in the week.
The Pioneers (2-3-1, 0-0 HCAC) handed the Polar Bears their first defeat of the season. Ohio Northern was ranked No. 3 nationally in the last NSCAA Top 25 poll and No. 1 in the Great Lakes region.
Transy sophomore forward Kyle Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) scored a pair of goals during the week. Smith had the game-winning goal in Transy's upset of Ohio Northern and added another goal in TU's loss to Wilmington.
Franklin (4-3, 0-0 HCAC) notched a pair of wins last week, earning victories over Spalding and Illinois College.
Senior forward Joel Fisher (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) tallied two goals in a 3-0 win over Illinois College and added two more goals with an assist in a 6-1 rout of Spalding.
Rose-Hulman (4-3, 0-0 HCAC) has won three of its last four contests. The Engineers were impressive last week, knocking off Webster and Millikin.
RHIT's William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) scored three goals during the week. The sophomore midfielder scored twice, including the game-winner, in RHIT's 3-0 win over Millikin and added a goal in a 6-1 win over Webster.
