CINCINNATI, OH - The College of Mount St. Joseph Men's Soccer Team will be making a dream become a reality.

For the first time in school history, one of our athletic teams will be representing our institution at a higher level, overseas.

Our Men's soccer team will be traveling to Spain in an effort to experience how it is to play the sport of soccer in another country. They will not only get to have this experience of playing some of the top teams in the world, but they will also learn more about the cultural diversity in Spain as well as the way of life in that country.

The team will be making this trip as part of their goal of continue growth, as soccer players as well as individuals. The trip is schedule to last ten days, departing Cincinnati on August 1st and returning on August 11th. They will have a week in between to rest and recharge before the start of their regular pre-season campaign.

While in Spain, the team will be staying half of the time in Madrid and the other half in Barcelona. They will be training in these cities and having the opportunity to play some of the biggest youth teams in that country, for example: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla. Not only will they have the chance to train and play, but they will also have the privilege to visit and tour the Real Madrid (Santiago Bernabeu) and Barcelona (Camp Nou) stadiums as well as their respective locker rooms and award rooms. If that wasn't enough, they will have the opportunity to take pictures with one of the most significant awards in the soccer world…the Champions League Trophy!

Head Coach Rudy Argueta expressed his excitement and thoughts on the once in a l fetime experience for these athletes, "This is a unique and very important opportunity for our team. It will help our program, not only in the soccer sense of things, but mainly in the personal sense, just because they will learn more about the culture of the game as well as the culture of the country. They don't only get to experience playing, but seeing their favorite stadiums and teams in the world also."

The team will not only be playing soccer and learning a different culture. They will also be learning to give back to the community while they are there. Living our Mount mission, the team will be conducting a soccer clinic at an orphanage, learning and giving more to those in needs. "We want to become soccer players, but our main goal is to become better human beings. By helping those in need we teach them to see and know that there are good people in this world and hopefully help to bring smiles to their faces. More than anything, we teach ourselves how to appreciate life more as a whole."

"This is the first International trip for our team and an athletic team in our institution and we are very excited to have the opportunity to make it a
reality. We look forward to learning and having fun.  Hopefully, this will open the doors to other teams to be able to have the same learning opportunity."

The Men's soccer team is looking to make this trip a reality every three years and give the chance of a lifetime to all of those that are part of this soccer family.

"This is a unique and unforgettable experience and I know for sure we will enjoy it!" Argueta ended with a smile on his face.

We look forward to hearing from coach Argueta about their enjoyment and learning experience when they return.
