Men's Soccer Report (Week 1) - Defiance Off to Best Start Since 2009 Season

GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College men's soccer team ended the week with a pair of home wins, opening the season 2-0 for the first time since 2009.  The Yellow Jackets (2-0, 0-0 HCAC) blanked Rockford 3-0 and slipped by Westminster (PA) 2-1 over the weekend.

The DC offense was spread out during the two wins as five different Yellow Jackets found the back of the net.

Senior defender Luke Freels (Ludlow Falls, Ohio/Milton Union) scored a goal and anchored the DC defense which allowed only 11 total shots and one goal all weekend. 

DC will travel to Alliance, Ohio this weekend to face Mount Union and Bethany (WV).

In other action...

Earlham College kicked off the season with a 5-0 win over Cincinnati Christian.  The Quakers (1-0, 0-0 HCAC) offense was led by junior forward Ameer Yusuf (Ramallah, Palestine/Friends).  The junior recorded a hat trick in the Quakers' win, netting three goals with an assist.

Rose-Hulman opened the schedule with a 3-0 win over Trine Friday evening.  The Engineers (1-0, 0-0 HCAC) second game of the weekend against Ohio Northern was cancelled due to weather.
