Rose-Hulman's Webb and Kowalkowski and Transylvania's Murillo Claim Men's Soccer Top Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Austin Webb (West Lafayette, Ind.) and Nick Kowalkowski (New Lenox, Ill. / Lincoln-Way) have been named the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players.  Webb and Kowalkowski helped the Fightin' Engineers earn its second straight HCAC regular season title.

Webb led the Rose-Hulman offense this season with 23 total points.  The junior forward scored 10 goals and totaled 3 assists to lead the Fightin' Engineers scoring attack.  In conference matches, Webb led the league with eight goals and 18 points scored in nine matches. 

Kowalkowski earned the Defensive MVP for the second year in a row for his efforts this fall.  The senior defender anchored a defensive unit that allowed a conference-best one goal in nine conference matches.  The Rose-Hulman defense also registered eight shutouts in conference play and 12 shutouts overall this season.

Transylvania University's Jason Murillo (Versailles, Ky. / Woodford County) has been selected as the 2016 HCAC Freshman of the Year.  Murillo, a defender for the Pioneers, contributed 15 total points in his first collegiate season. The freshman also totaled five goals and five assists for the Pioneers.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Sean Helliwell has been named the 2016 HCAC Coach of the Year, earning his seventh honor as the head man for the Engineers.  Helliwell has led Rose-Hulman to a 14-6 record this season, earning the school's sixth HCAC regular season crown.

Eleven players join Webb and Kowalkowski as First-Team All-HCAC members. Those players include Hanover's Rafael Di Maio (Sr., Sao Paulo, Brazil), Matthew Eldridge (Sr., Louisville, Ky.), Dominic Isadore (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio), and Alex McSweeney (Sr., Louisville, Ky.), Rose-Hulman's Ben Lyon (Sr., Westfield, Ind.), Turner Perkins (Jr., Danville, Ind.), Brad Rostron (Sr., Westlake, Texas), and Dieter Schultz (Sr., Dyer, Ind.), and Transylvania's Riley Calhoon (Jr., Lexington, Ky.), Blake Chidester (Sr., Brentwood, Tenn.), and Tyler Joy-Brandon (So., Lexington, Ky.).

All teams are voted and selected by the 10 conference head coaches.
