INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The race to the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer standings continues before the last week of the regular season.
The Hanover College men's soccer team went 1-1 last week in HCAC play with a 2-0 win at Anderson last Saturday. The Panthers' Josh Hughes and Fellipe Busato each scored an unassisted goal for Hanover in the win.
The Transylvania Pioneers handed Hanover its first HCAC loss of the season on Wednesday, 1-0. In 180 minutes of play last week, goalkeeper Drew Grisham picked up two wins in goal for the Pioneers. In Wednesday's victory, Grisham tallied seven saves en route to his third shutout of the season. The Pios have now climbed to the second slot in the conference standings with a 5-1-1 HCAC record heading into the last two games of the regular season.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology went 1-1 in conference action last week. Fightin' Engineer Michael Simmons scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Franklin on Wednesday. On Saturday, the senior found the back of the net in the 79th minute against Manchester to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Defiance, Manchester, and Mount St. Joseph all sit in a tie for the fourth spot on the HCAC leaderboard with a 4-3 conference record. The Mount Lions claimed two victories last week over Defiance and Bluffton, while the Yellow Jackets and Spartans each went 1-1 in conference play.
