Franklin's Hall & RHIT's Venema Highlight Men's Swimming & Diving All-HCAC Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Franklin College's Charlie Hall and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Peter Venema have been named 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming Athlete of the Year and Diving Athlete of the Year, respectively. Hall led the Grizzlies to a first place finish at the meet, while Venema led the Fightin' Engineers to a second place finish at the championship February 14-16.

Hall, a sophomore for Franklin, won three individual events at the 2019 HCAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The sophomore claimed individual titles in the 200-fly (1:53.55), the 200-IM (1:54.47) and set a new conference record in the 400-IM (4:08.19) to pace the Grizzlies at the three-day championship.

Venema, a sophomore for the Engineers, has been named the Men's HCAC Diving Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. The sophomore took first place in the 1-meter board and finished second in the 3-meter board during the HCAC championship meet. On the first day of the championship, Venema claimed second in the 3-meter dive with a point total of 441.25. The sophomore then recorded his first place finish on Sunday in the 1-meter dive with 520.45 points.

Rose-Hulman's Jared Brown and Brendan King were awarded HCAC Co-Freshmen of the Year honors for their efforts at the championship meet. Brown and King each garnered two individual titles at the meet, while Brown was also a member of the winning 200-freestyle relay team.

Franklin's Andrew Hendricks was named the HCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Grizzlies to the school's first HCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championship title. The Grizzlies racked up a total of 723.5 points during the three-day championship event.
