Men's Tennis Report (Week 4) - Rose-Hulman Sweeps First HCAC Tri-Match of 2010
GREENWOOD, IN- The 2010 HCAC men's tennis conference schedule kicked off last weekend as Franklin, Anderson, and Rose-Hulman met in Indianapolis. Rose-Hulman moved into first place in the league standings with a pair of wins over the Ravens and Grizzlies.
Rose-Hulman (5-2, 2-0 HCAC) notched 8-1 victories over Anderson and Franklin at West Indy Racquet Club, while Franklin defeated AU 7-2 to stand 1-1 on the young conference season.
The Engineers were led by Scott Grubbs (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) in the two wins. The senior notched two straight set wins at the No. 2 singles position and won twice at No. 1 doubles with teammate Michael Schoumacher (Memphis, Tenn./White Station).
Franklin (3-4, 1-1 HCAC) received a great effort from their top player. Junior Matt Hamm (Batesville, Ind./H.S.) won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles in FC’s loss to Rose-Hulman and added a 6-2, 6-1 singles win in the Grizzlies’ defeat of Anderson. Hamm also won at No. 1 doubles against Anderson in his only doubles action of the week.
Anderson (0-3, 0-2 HCAC) remained winless on the young season and will not return to the court until a tri-match with Mount St. Joseph and Manchester on March 27.
Defending champion Transylvania (0-1, 0-0 HCAC) began its 2010 schedule in Hilton Head, South Carolina Sunday, falling to Macalester 7-2.
