Men's Tennis Report (Week 6) - Anderson Sweeps Tri-Match with Manchester/Mount
GREENWOOD, IN- Last week's HCAC tennis schedule was light as Anderson, Mount St. Joseph, and Manchester met in Cincinnati for the only tri-match of the week. The Ravens posted a 6-3 victory over Manchester and a 7-2 win over host Mount to sweep the weekend set. AU also met Hanover in Indianapolis on Friday evening, falling to the Panthers 8-1.
Anderson (2-4, 2-3 HCAC) freshman Jake Banwert (McHenry, Ill./H.S.) won both matches at No. 4 singles during the Ravens' wins over Mount and Manchester. He also teamed with Addison Witt (Hillard, Ohio) to win all three matches against Hanover, Mount, and Manchester at No. 2 doubles.
Mount St. Joseph (3-3, 1-3 HCAC) walked away with a split this weekend, falling to AU and defeating Manchester. In the Lions 6-3 win over the Spartans, freshman Clayton Steinriede (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) won at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles to lead the Mount to victory.
Manchester (0-4, 0-2 HCAC) remained winless on the young season after falling to the Ravens and Lions. Junior Josh Walker (Columbia City, Ind./H.S.) finished the weekend 4-0, posting 2-0 marks at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions.
Hanover (4-5, 3-1 HCAC) remained second in the league standings with an 8-1 win over Anderson in Indianapolis Friday. The Panthers were led by No. 1 singles standout Steven Gillam (Fishers, Ind./H.S.) who finished the week 2-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles. HC also defeated Thomas More 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
