Men's Tennis Report (Week 8) - Transy Clinches Share of 8th Straight HCAC Title
GREENWOOD, IN- Transylvania University's men's tennis team remained perfect in HCAC play, going 3-0 in league matches last week. The Pioneers ran their HCAC win streak to 59 matches in a row with wins over Hanover, Defiance, and Anderson, clinching at least a share of their eighth consecutive league title.
Transy (6-4, 5-0 HCAC) defeated all three opponents during the week by a score of 5-0. Sophomore Joseph Glass (Paris, Ky./Bourbon Co.) finished with a 4-0 record during the week, posting three victories at No. 3 doubles and a win at No. 5 singles against Defiance.
The Pioneers have regular season matches remaining with Manchester and Mount St. Joseph before the HCAC AQ Tournament takes place in Indianapolis on May 1st and 2nd.
Hanover (8-6, 5-2 HCAC) closed out their regular season schedule with wins over Franklin and Manchester on Saturday. The Panthers currently occupy the second spot in the league standings with a 5-2 mark.
In the Panthers' 5-2 win over rival Franklin, senior Steve Craig (New Albany, Ind./H.S.), along with sophomores Kyle Bohnert (Louisville, Ky./Trinity),and Matt Strandmark (Madison, Ind./H.S.), each picked up two wins in the match.
Defiance (5-8, 3-2 HCAC) can move into a tie with Hanover with two league wins this week. The Yellow Jackets face Franklin and Mount St. Joseph in Defiance on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman (7-7, 4-2 HCAC) will try and finish with a 5-2 HCAC record as the Engineers close their conference schedule against Manchester Sunday.
