Men's Tennis Report (Week 9) - Defiance Sweeps FC and MSJ to Earn 2nd Place Tie
GREENWOOD, IN- Defiance played host to Mount St. Joseph and Franklin in the final HCAC men's tennis tri-match of the season. The host Jackets posted a 5-1 win over Franklin and a 7-2 triumph over the Mount to finish in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings.
Defiance (7-9, 5-2 HCAC) was led by HCAC Player of the Week William Draur (Toledo, Ohio/Waite) during the matches. The sophomore finished with a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and doubles against the Lions and Grizzlies. Draur won a pair of matches in Defiance’s 7-2 win over Mount St. Joseph and then won his No. 1 doubles match against Franklin.
Franklin (5-9, 3-4 HCAC) notched a 5-0 win over Mount St. Joseph in the third and final match at Defiance. The Grizzlies will be seeded fifth at the upcoming HCAC tournament on May 1st and 2nd.
Defiance and Franklin have ended their 2010 conference schedule, while Mount St. Joseph will finish on April 27 against first place Transylvania.
Rose-Hulman and Manchester met in North Manchester on Sunday afternoon, ending the conference schedule for both schools. The Engineers (8-7, 5-2 HCAC) locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a 9-0 win over the last place Spartans (0-9, 0-6 HCAC).
Rose freshman Ben Paras (Tucson, Ari./Nordhoff) helped lead the Engineers' victory over Manchester with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Manchester will play host to first place Transylvania Saturday morning.
