Transylvania Tennis Squads Ready for NCAA Regionals

LEXINGTON, KY –The Transylvania men's and women's tennis squads are set to take part in the NCAA Division III tennis regionals this weekend.  The Transy men will meet Wilkes (Pa.), winners of the Freedom Conference tournament, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Regional Tennis Championship Friday at Washington and Lee University. Transylvania's women's tennis team will make their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Friday, taking on Vassar (N.Y.) College at Emory University in Atlanta.

The Transy men (12-5) are making their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament while the Colonels are in the NCAA field for the third year in a row. Wilkes brings a 15-2 record into the 2 p.m. match.

The winner of the Transy-Wilkes match will play Emory (14-7) on Saturday at 2 p.m. Host Washington and Lee (15-8) meets the College of New Jersey (10-6) in the other half of the draw. The semifinal winners play on Sunday.

Regional winners advance to the national quarterfinals, set for Oberlin College on May 25-30.

The Pioneer women, winners of the Heartland Conference Tournament, are 14-6 on the season, while Vassar (18-2), represents the Liberty League for the eighth year in a row. The Brewers are ranked No. 22 in the country. The match will begin at 2 p.m.

The Vassar-Transy winner meets Washington and Lee (18-5) on Saturday at 2 p.m.. Host Emory (18-5) will take on the winner of the Methodist-Agnes Scott match in the other half of the draw. Methodist is 22-2 on the year while Agnes Scott is 11-7.

The Central Region winner moves to the national quarterfinals, to be held at Fredricksburg, Va., May 25-27.
