Men's Tennis Report (Week 1) - Rose-Hulman Edges Earlham in HCAC Opener
GREENWOOD, IN- The 2011 HCAC men's tennis conference schedule kicked off last weekend as Franklin, Earlham, and Rose-Hulman met on the court. Rose-Hulman moved into first place in the league standings with a 5-4 win over Earlham, while the Quakers handed Franklin a 5-4 defeat.
Rose-Hulman (1-0, 1-0 HCAC) earned the 5-4 win over Earlham thanks to Seth Hendrickson's (Crawfordsville, Ind./H.S.) 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles to deliver the win.
Senior Dallas Burton (Haughton, La./Louisiana Matt & Science) added a come-from-behind victory to keep the match alive. Burton won at No. 6 singles 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 by claiming a third-set match tiebreak by a 13-11 score.
Earlham (1-1, 1-1 HCAC) rebounded after the tough loss to defeat Franklin (0-2, 0-1 HCAC) 5-4 in Terre Haute. Sophomore Henry Levin (Dallas, Tex./Highland Park) eared a victory at No. 1 singles against the Engineers and posted a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles against Rose and Franklin.
Sophomore Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand/Tauranga Boys) turned in a perfect week going 2-0 in singles and doubles action in both HCAC matches.
This week's men's tennis schedule is light with Earlham traveling to Otterbein and Rose-Hulman tangling with Hanover in a HCAC tilt. The Engineers and Panthers will meet Sunday afternoon at West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis.
