Men's Tennis Report (Week 5) - Defiance Travels to Hilton Head
GREENWOOD, IN- Defiance
College began a six match trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina over
the weekend. The Yellow Jackets (1-4, 0-0 HCAC) got off to a
1-2 start, posting a win over Regis (Mass.) and dropping 8-1
decisions to Wittenberg and Mount Union.
In an 8-1 win over Regis, Austin Gray (Maumee, Ohio/H.S.) led the charge for Defiance, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Gray also teamed with Mark Vandevender (Westlake, Ohio/Lake Ridge) for an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Defiance will try and rebound after back-to-back losses tomorrow as the Jackets face Grand Rapids CC and Bridgewater (Va.) in South Carolina. DC closes the southern trip with a match against Elizabethtown Friday.
In other action, Hanover (2-3, 0-1 HCAC) finished its trip to Orlando, Florida with a split. The Panthers earned a 5-4 win over Wartburg Wednesday afternoon before capping off the trip with a 9-0 setback against Augustana.
Freshman Peter Tratt (DeWitt, Mich./H.S.) posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and added an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles with teammate Steven Gilliam (Fishers, Ind./H.S.) to lead the Panthers to a win over Wartburg.
HC will return to HCAC play Saturday afternoon at Mount St. Joseph.
