Men's Tennis Report (Week 9) - Transy Runs HCAC Win Streak to 66
GREENWOOD, IN- Transylvania University opened HCAC play with a sweep of Rose-Hulman and Manchester over the weekend. Win the two victories, Transy (3-2, 2-0 HCAC) has now won their past 66 HCAC matches and has not lost a conference match since 2002.
The Pioneers pulled out a thrilling 5-4 win at Rose-Hulman Saturday and capped off the tri-match with a 5-0 win over Manchester.
Two-time HCAC MVP Will Palmer (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) led the Pioneers over the Engineers, posting a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Palmer added an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles in the win over Manchester.
Transy returns to action tomorrow afternoon at Hanover and will face rival Centre and Georgetown (KY) in non-league play later in the week.
Despite losing 5-4 to Transylvania, Rose-Hulman (6-5, 5-1 HCAC) salvaged a split at the tri-match with a 9-0 sweep of Manchester. The Engineers still remain in the hunt for the HCAC title with two games left on their conference schedule.
Rose will not return to the courts until April 16 at Illinois Wesleyan.
