Men's Tennis Report (Week 3) - Earlham Posts 8-1 Win Over Otterbein

GREENWOOD, IN- The Earlham College men's tennis team returned to the win column with a decisive 8-1 win over Otterbein in Dayton, Ohio.  The Quakers (4-1, 2-0 HCAC) moved to 4-1 overall this season.

The Quakers swept the doubles competition on the Dayton Center Courts to take control of the non-conference affair.

Sophomore Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia/Universal) won a pair of matches, earning a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Gavrilov is 3-1 in singles action this season and holds a 4-1 mark in doubles.

Earlham will travel to Wabash Wednesday in its only match this week.

In other action...Hanover (1-0, 0-0 HCAC) opened the season with a 5-4 win over Alma in Orlando, Florida Monday.

Junior Steve Gilliam (Fishers, Ind./H.S.) earned a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and added an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles to lead the Panthers.

The Panthers will continue their Florida trip this week with matchups against Augustana, Capital, Concordia (MN), and Wartburg (IA).

Transylvania (0-0, 0-0 HCAC) will open its season this weekend with matches against Oglethorpe and Sewanee Saturday.

Franklin (1-5, 0-1 HCAC) will travel to Defiance (0-1, 0-0 HCAC) Saturday as the two squads meet for a HCAC tilt.
