
GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University and Defiance College battled Saturday as both teams are vying for seeding in the upcoming HCAC tournament. The Pioneers (2-6, 2-2 HCAC) pulled out a narrow 5-4 win over the Jackets (9-8, 4-2 HCAC) with one week remaining in the regular season.
Transy's Robert Albrecht (Lexington, Ky./Christian) earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and added an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles position to lead the Pioneers.
Transylvania will travel to Anderson for a 10AM match Saturday.
In other HCAC action...
Anderson University (3-3, 3-2 HCAC) snapped a two-match HCAC losing streak with a 6-3 win at Manchester Wednesday. Senior Drew Lovern (Indianapolis, Ind./Covenant Christian) won at No. 1 singles and doubles to lead the Ravens.
Manchester University (1-11, 1-5 HCAC) earned its first win of the season, beating Mount St. Joseph (4-7, 0-6 HCAC) 5-4 Saturday. Junior Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind./Whitko) led the Spartans with wins at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.
