INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Franklin College and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sit at the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis standings with a 3-0 conference record.
Franklin's Blake Amonett went 5-1 over three matches as the Grizzlies opened HCAC play with wins over Mount St. Joseph, Defiance and Manchester. The junior went 2-1 in doubles play in the No. 1 slot and was a perfect 3-0 in singles play at the top of the Franklin lineup.
The Fightin' Engineers Austin Perry finished 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles matches as Rose-Hulman defeated Transylvania 8-1 and Webster 7-2 on Saturday. The junior won straight set matches at No. 3 singles against Transylvania and at No. 2 singles against Webster. Perry also combined with Ian Landwehr for a No. 2 doubles win against Transylvania.
Earlham's AitorZerdilas-Herrera went 6-0 in matches last week with a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and doubles, leading Earlham men's tennis to a 3-0 record for the week. The freshman's week included a 6-4, 6-1 win over Hanover's Pablo Gallart Polo and a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Manchester's Connor Eichenauer, guiding the Quakers to a pair of HCAC victories over Hanover (7-2) and Manchester (9-0).
In doubles play, Zerdilas-Herrera teamed up with Aleksandr Sergeev for a pair of 8-0 victories over their HCAC opponents. The freshman ended the week by leading Earlham to a 9-0 win over four-time defending OAC champion John Carroll University, including a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over JCU's Andy Sciliano at No. 1 singles.
Transylvania's Hugo Kouhkna posted a 2-0 record in No. 1 doubles action and 1-1 in No. 2 singles play this past Saturday as the Pioneers battled Rose-Hulman and the Webster University Gorloks. The freshman teamed with Arjun Gupta to pick up the Pioneers' lone victory against the Fightin' Engineers, an 8-3 victory in the No. 1 doubles matchup. Later in the day, Kouhkna once again helped lead the Pioneers to a No.1 doubles victory before cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 No. 2 singles victory.
