Manchester's Kimmel Takes Second in High Jump at NCAA Championships

GREENCASTLE, IN - Manchester College senior John Kimmel (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Elmhurst) finished second overall in the men's high jump at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by DePauw University on Saturday.

Kimmel, the defending outdoor high jump national champion tied Dillon Binkley of Illinois College with a height of 2.08m (6-9 3/4), but Binkley cleared his third mark of 2.05 meters on his first try while Kimmel needed his second attempt and decided the tie-breaker.

Kimmel was announced Thursday as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches of America's (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Regional Field Athlete of the Year after provisionally qualifying in every indoor meet this year also had just one defeat in the high jump all season heading into nationals. He becomes a two-time All-American for the Spartan track and field team with his second place finish.

The track and field outdoor season begins Saturday, March 20, at the Defiance College Invite.
