Men's Track & Field Report (Week 2) - Rose-Hulman Wins Hanover Invitational

GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman received six first-place finishes to capture the team title at the Hanover Invitational last Saturday.  The Engineers held off second place Hanover by 27 points to claim the title.  Franklin finished sixth in the 10-team event.

Sophomore Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) led the Engineers with two individual and one relay first place honor.  Coleman won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.61 seconds and claimed the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.02 seconds.  The sophomore led off the 4 X 400 meter relay team that also won in a time of 3:23.01.

Hanover's Dale Orem (Princeton, Ind./H.S.) and Corry Stewart (Nashville, Tenn./Father Ryan) led the Panther effort at the meet.  Orem broke a 26-year school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.99 seconds, shattering Hanover’s previous mark of 55.75 seconds set by Ron Mueller in 1984.  Stewart had three top four finishes at the meet, placing first in the triple jump (13.26 meters), second in the long jump (6.32 meters), and fourth in the high jump (1.78 meters).

Franklin was led by freshman Georard Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) at the meet.  Mitchell was first in the 100-meter dash (11.26 seconds), third in the 200-meter dash (22.84) and third in the long jump (6.27 meters).

Mount St. Joseph and Transylvania competed at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational on Friday evening.  The Lions finished second among the five competing schools, while Transylvania finished fifth.  The Mount finished just 10 points behind Division I Xavier at the meet. Randall Mitchell (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor Academy) led the way for the Lions, recording first place finishes in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw.

In other action last week, Bluffton University placed 10th out of 15 schools at the Cedarville Invitational.  Defiance and Anderson were also in action, competing at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.

This weekend's schedule showcases eight of the nine HCAC institutions.  Franklin has the weekend off before returning to the track on April 9 at the Indiana Little State meet.
