Men's Track & Field Report (Week 3) - Rose Debuts at No. 9 in 1st Regional Rankings
GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman placed fourth overall at the highly competitive DePauw Invitational last weekend, tallying 89 points at the meet to finish 22.5 points behind champion Wabash. The Engineers stand No. 9 in the Great Lakes Region in the first outdoor track and field regional rankings released this morning.
Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in the 400-meter hurdles at DePauw, finishing with a meet record time of 54.01 to win the event. The sophomore also captured top honors in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.17.
Manchester also competed at the 11-team DePauw Invitational. The Spartans fielded a limited roster due to spring break and finished 10th overall at the meet.
Hanover finished fourth among 13 competing schools at the Centre Invitational Saturday. Senior Zach Seig (Anderson, Ind./H.S.) won two events to help lead Hanover's effort, placing first in the hammer throw with a toss of 161' 5" and first in the shot put with an effort of 46' 5.25".
Defiance and Bluffton competed at the Defiance Invitational on Friday evening. The host Jackets finished fourth among the seven schools, while Bluffton finished fifth.
DC's Austin Trivett (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.) cleared a personal-record height of 14' 5.25" in the pole vault to tie for first place at the top of the HCAC’s Outdoor Performances List for the 2010 season. In addition to pole vault, Trivett placed first at the meet in javelin throw, second in high jump, and fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. The junior personally accounted for 30 of the Yellow Jackets’ 97 points at the meet.
Bluffton's Jason Fisher (Rockford, Ohio/Parkway) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put. The senior won the event at Defiance with a toss of 50' 10.75".
Anderson was in action on Saturday and placed fourth at the Anderson Invitational. Leonard Wells (Warsaw, Ind./H.S.) set a school record in the discus at the meet, breaking Chris Simmons’ AU record (1997) by over two meters. Wells won the event with a toss of 52.38 meters, automatically qualifying him for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.
In other action last week, Mount St. Joseph placed 15th out of 16 schools at the University of Cincinnati Invitational. Transylvania was also in action, placing 10th at the 13-team Centre Invite.
This weekend's schedule showcases eight of the nine HCAC institutions. Mount St. Joseph has the weekend off before returning to the track on April 17 at the All-Ohio Championships.
