RHIT's Michael Burris Named ESPN Magazine Academic All-American

TERRE HAUTE, IN - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Michael Burris (Terre Haute, Ind./North Vigo) has earned ESPN The Magazine Men's Track and Field Academic All-American honors, in results released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Burris captured third-team College Division honors for his efforts in the classroom and as a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship men's track and field squad. The College Division Academic All-American team includes three squads of 15 student-athletes each out of more than 800 schools in the NCAA Division II, III, NAIA and junior college ranks.
Burris becomes the 86th Academic All-American in Rose-Hulman athletics history. At least one Rose-Hulman student-athlete has earned Academic All-American honors for the last 25 years, the sixth longest streak among all NCAA Division I, II or III institutions.
He also becomes the seventh different individual to earn Academic All-American honors in Rose-Hulman men's track and field history. His honor is the 10th overall Academic All-American award in men's track and field history at the college.
Burris captured two HCAC titles in the 110-meter high hurdles and was a three-time conference runner-up in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. He placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the 2010 league championships.
Burris earned all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008, while capturing honorable mention all-league accolades in 2010. He was selected ESPN The Magazine academic all-district in 2008. Burris completed his academic career at Rose-Hulman with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a 3.91 grade point average.
