GREENWOOD, IN – Anderson University will serve as host for the inaugural HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this Saturday. All ten institutions will take part in the indoor event. The Rose-Hulman men were selected by the coaches to win the 2011 indoor title, while the Franklin women were tabbed to capture the women’s title.
The Rose-Hulman men have been successful this indoor season, posting the top performances in 10 of the 16 indoor events. The Engineers are ranked No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region and stand No. 14 overall in Division III in the Dual Meet Rankings.
Junior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) has posted the conference’s best mark in the 200-meters, 400-meters, 55-meter hurdles, and triple jump. Coleman is also a member of the 4 X 400 meter relay squad that ranks No. 1 in the conference and 13th nationally. The junior standout has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 55-meter hurdles (7.68 seconds).
Senior Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind./H.S.) holds the top mark in the 800-meters and mile run, while Micah Aldrich (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) leads the HCAC pack in the 5,000-meters.
The Franklin women’s track team will try to pick up where they left off last spring as HCAC outdoor champions. The Grizzlies have only posted one top mark in the conference so far this indoor season. Senior Heather Waterman (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) holds the top time in the women’s 5,000-meters with a mark of 17:46.28.
