RH’s Bischak & Bouagnon, DC’s Trivett Named HCAC Men’s Indoor T & F Athletes of the Year
GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind./H.S.) and Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) and Defiance College’s Austin Trivett (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.) have been named 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track Athletes of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively. Bischak and Bouagnon helped the Engineers claim the inaugural indoor title, while Trivett led the Yellow Jackets to a second place finish on February 19 at Anderson University.
Bischak, a senior for the Engineers, won two individual events at the 2011 HCAC Indoor Championships. The senior claimed the 800-meter run title with a time of 1:54.89 and placed first in the mile run with a time of 4:22.14.
Rose senior Paul Bouagnon also earned two individual titles at the meet. The senior earned titles in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, posting times of 22.64 and 49.98 to earn top marks. Bouagnon was also a member of the first place 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams at the meet.
Trivett, a senior for the Jackets, won two field events at the championship. He had a winning mark of 1.97 meters in the high jump and cleared 4.55 meters to claim the title in the pole vault. The senior finished the evening with a sixth place finish in the long jump (6.08 meters).
Also receiving recognition for their efforts at the meet are
Anderson freshman Tony Johnson (South Bend,
Ind./Clay) and Rose-Hulman freshman Andrew
Thompson (Mundelin, Ill./Vernon Hills), receiving the 2011
HCAC Indoor Track & Field Co-Freshman Athlete of the
Year. Johnson won the individual title in the 55-meter dash
with a time of 6.45 and placed sixth in the 200-meter dash
(23.26). Thompson earned a fourth place finish in the mile
run (4:24.55) and a second place finish in the 800-meters (1:58.7)
to earn 13 points at the meet.
Rose-Hulman’s Larry Cole was named the HCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Engineers to the inaugural HCAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field team title. Cole, in his eighth season as Rose-Hulman’s head coach, saw his squad garner 241 points to win the championship.
