Men's Indoor T&F Report (Week 2) - DC's Bidlack Breaks 500-Meter Dash Record
GREENWOOD, IN - The DC men’s indoor track and field team finished second at the Trine Invitational last Friday, collecting 159.75 points at the event and falling just 2.50 points shy of the host school. Seth Bidlack (Oakwood, Ohio/Paulding) broke DC’s school record in the 500-meter dash, crossing the line in 69.16 seconds.
Bidlack’s time edged out former DC record-holder, Shawn Roth, by less than a quarter of a second as he coasted through the line for a first-place finish at the meet.
DC’s sprinters showed up big in the 4x200-meter relay as well, with Ryan Perry (North Royalton, Ohio/H.S.), Dan Hardin-Wallace (Toledo, Ohio/Bowsher), Josh Herron (DeGraff, Ohio/Riverside) and Aaron Demecs (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.) teaming up for a first place finish (1:33.23). The Jackets’ distance medley relay team took first place at the meet as well with a time of 11:01.58.
In jumping events, Thavez Jeter (Painesville, Ohio/Thomas W. Harvey) led Defiance with first place finishes in both the high jump and triple jump.
Rose-Hulman led the HCAC field at the 12 team Rose-Hulman Indoor Invitational Saturday. The host Engineers placed third at the meet followed by Franklin (6th), Earlham (9th), and Mount St. Joseph (10th).
The Rose-Hulman men's track and field team stands No. 21 nationally in NCAA Division III and second in the Great Lakes Region in the second poll released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The NCAA Division III Track and Field Men's computer rankings list Rose-Hulman 21st overall with 30.63 points.
Rose's Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind./H.S.) and Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) each improved their provisional marks for the NCAA championships at the meet. Bischak finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:13.84, while Coleman placed third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.7 seconds).
Anderson competed at the Indiana Wesleyan Indoor Invite and walked away with a fifth place finish at the eight team meet. AU's Tony Johnson (Huntington, Ind./H.S.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships, finishing first in the 60-meter dash (6.96). His time was converted to a 55-meter time of 6.48.
This weekend's schedule showcases all ten HCAC institutions. Anderson will host Earlham, Hanover, and Transylvania at the AU Indoor Invitational Saturday. Franklin, Rose-Hulman, and Mount St. Joseph will head to Greencastle for the DePauw Indoor Invitational, while Bluffton and Defiance compete at Ohio Northern. Manchester is also in action, taking part in the Taylor Invite.
