Men's Outdoor T&F Report (Week 1) - Jackets Claim DC Dick Small Invite Title

GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College men's outdoor track and field team earned the title at the seven team DC Dick Small Invitational last weekend.  The Jackets held off Goshen College in the team standings by 61.5 points, totaling 191.5 points on the afternoon.

Defiance's Justin Perkins (Bryan, Ohio/Fairview) broke his own school record in the 5,000-meter run, finishing the event in 15:38.33.  Perkins edged out the previous school record he set at the HCAC Championships last May by just over one second.

DC’s pole vaulters claimed the top three spots at the meet.  Tyler Anderson (Sidney, Ohio/Houston) won the event with a clearance of 14' 5.25".

Austin Trivett (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.) tallied 31.5 points for the Yellow Jackets on the afternoon, earning a first place finish in the Javelin (164’ 0”) and third place finishes in the high jump (6’ 0”) and pole vault (13’ 5.25”). Trivett also claimed first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.25.

Bluffton University competed at the meet, placing sixth in the team standings.

Preseason favorite Rose-Hulman was in action at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird.  Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) won the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the meet, finishing with a first place time of 23.07 in the 200 and 50.85 in the 400-meters.  Bouagnon also helped the 1,600-meter relay team cap the meet with a win in a time of 3:25.19.

In other action over the weekend, Hanover competed at Rose-Hulman while Franklin took part in the Wabash Relays.  Mount St. Joseph rounded out the action, placing seventh overall at the University of Cincinnati Relays.

This weekend all 10 HCAC schools will be in action, including five participating at the Hanover Invitational Saturday afternoon.
