Men's Indoor T&F Report (Week 6) - Defiance Leads HCAC Field at Anderson
GREENWOOD, IN - The Defiance College men's indoor track and field team placed second among 13 schools at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational at Anderson University over the weekend. The Jackets led seven league schools at the meet, finishing behind Wabash in the team standings.
Defiance's Seth Bidlack (Oakwood, Ohio/Paulding) turned in a school-record and conference-leading performance in the 1,000-meter run, finishing the event with a time of 2:37.63 to finish first at the meet.
DC’s Tyler Anderson (Sidney, Ohio/Houston) moved to the top of the HCAC standings in the pole vault with a mark of 4.55 meters, tying teammate Austin Trivett (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.). Trivett set the mark in last weekend’s HCAC Indoor Championships.
Franklin placed fourth overall at the meet and received three first place finishes. Sophomore Georard Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) placed first in the long jump with a mark of 6.71 meters, while junior John Woodbury (Franklin, Ind./Indian Creek) led the field in the 55-meter hurdles (7.98 seconds). Senior Jacob Crow (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) won the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:19.00.
One athlete provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the meet Saturday. Mount St. Joseph's Micquelle Burton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) provisionally qualified in the 400-meter dash, winning the event in a time of 49.84. The Lions placed seventh overall in the team standings.
Other HCAC finishers included host Anderson in fifth position, followed by Manchester (6th), Earlham (10th), and Rose-Hulman (12th).
This weekend's schedule will be the final tune up before the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11-12 in Columbus, Ohio.
